When it comes to wellness, there is a growing recognition of the importance of taking a holistic approach. Holistic wellness encompasses the well-being of the mind, body, and spirit, recognising the interconnectedness of these aspects of our being. One vital aspect of holistic wellness and preventative medicine that often goes unnoticed is the power of healing energy.
Energy is a fundamental part of our existence. Albert Einstein famously said, “everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want, and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy.”
Reiki is a hands-on healing practice in which the practitioner channels energy to where you need it most, replenishing your energy levels by encouraging a stronger energy flow, which in turn supports your body’s natural healing ability.
This form of energy therapy can be experienced differently every time. Your healing may be gradual, where you feel only relaxation, or it may happen quite suddenly, allowing you to feel various shifts in your body. However, for most people, the common experience is a feeling of deep rest and warmth as energy flows through you, resulting in improved energy and enhanced self-awareness. My youngest daughter once said, “Mummy, it feels like you’re pouring warm water into my tummy!”
This leading alternative healing therapy works on physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels to balance all the energy centers of the body. Reiki is energy in motion—constant, dynamic, and powerful; its healing effects have been experienced by many and are now beginning to gain support from scientific research.
A number of hospitals globally now offer Reiki healing as part of their Integrative Medicine Programs. Interestingly, St Richards Hospice in the UK, where my own mother worked as a palliative care specialist for over 25 years, has offered Reiki therapy to their patients for many years with hugely beneficial results.
‘The Touchstone Process’ (published in Holistic Nursing Practice, 2010) was established to review a number of controlled studies that demonstrated successful Reiki treatment for depression, stress, cognitive function in elderly patients, and pain management in chronically ill patients. However, much more robust research is needed to demonstrate to our cognitive minds what we have been able to experience and feel for years. (This is something I hope to delve into in the coming years—watch this space!)
I first experienced Reiki for stress relief in 2006 as a complete cynic and could not dispute the results, even though my rational mind could not understand them. I have since used Reiki as preventive medicine to maintain good health and well-being, to help manage my stress and anxiety due to various bumps in the road over the years, before and during pregnancy, with my children, with the elderly, and even for distant healing sessions (which my logical mind still struggles to comprehend!).
Even as a Reiki Master, I cannot dispute that it works, but I cannot always tell you why. 🙂
